ABOUT DIVERSE DISCOURSE:
Diverse Discourse brings national curators, artistic directors, and critics to Houston to present a free public lecture and conduct studio visits with selected Houston-area artists, performers, and writers. Diverse Discourse provides a significant opportunity for area artists in all disciplines (including performance) to have their work reviewed by a variety of distinguished arts professionals, fostering a cultural exchange across the nation between artists and cultural producers.

ABOUT DREW KLEIN:
Drew Klein is Performing Arts Director at the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) in Cincinnati, Ohio. There, he curates and oversees the Black Box Performing Arts Series, an eight month season of performance-based projects that explores the full spectrum of disciplines.

Collaborating with revered figures like Mark Mothersbaugh and Saul Williams, and new makers like Dana Michel and Ligia Lewis, Klein’s curation centers on championing the adventurous within a context that honors the community for which he is working. Creating a prominent platform for international work in the Midwest, he has provided US premieres for artists like Ingri Fiksdal, Jisun Kim, and Mithkal Alzghair. Exclusive and co-commissioned performance works include Brian Harnetty’s Shawnee, Ohio, Takahiro Yamamoto’s Direct Path To Detour, Kaneza Schaal’s JACK&JILL, and Jens Lekman’s storytelling project Ghostwriting. Invested in the careers of Cincinnati’s own artists, he has produced and commissioned projects by artists such as Eddy Kwon, Napoleon Maddox, and Sheida Soleimani. Klein oversaw the CAC’s two-year application process to successfully join the National Performance Network as a partner organization in 2016.

Prior to joining the CAC, Klein worked in the New York independent film world with film mogul John Sloss’ sister companies Cinetic Media and Sloss Eckhouse LawCo LLP, as well as with Barcelona-based production company Garage Films. He holds a BFA in Electronic Media from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music.
