Karen Sherman and Performances by UH IART Students

The Art of Interruption

University of Houston Interdisciplinary Art (IART) students Amber Baker, Anasheh Partiai, Sarah Rodriguez, and Brandon Zech have constructed an evening responding to interference in everyday life. These emerging artists are investigating ideas about accessibility, tension, interruption, and intimacy.

_______

Karen Sherman will be discussing the upcoming performance of her multi-media dance work One with Others, which is an examination of who we become due to the choices we make — or that others make for us. Sherman considers how crude, handmade wooden appendages are utilized alongside text and choreography to think about these objects and gestures and how they inform what it means to be seen, handled, used, and needed.

A conversation will follow with Sherman, Lynne McCabe, IART instructor, and Rachel Cook, Associate Curator about dance, performance, making work, and thinking about time in relation to artistic practice.

Karen Sherman’s “One with Others” will be presented by DiverseWorks at The Barn, 2201 Preston, Houston, TX on May 2 & 3, 7:30 pm. Purchase tickets here.

DWOW (DiverseWorks on Wednesdays) is sponsored in part by Saint Arnold Brewing Company and Topo Chico USA.
