Lillian Warren: Photo-performance

Lillian Warren’s current artistic practice primarily involves painting from photographs taken of strangers waiting in public spaces. She isolates each figure in Photoshop, then combines multiple individuals in a new setting. The result is a nebulous site of distraction and dislocation.

For this public program, presented in conjunction with the exhibition Parliament of Owls, Warren will construct a live photo shoot, placing individuals in various poses for a series of images that will be the source material for her next body of work.

Warren is seeking 5-10 volunteer participants and is interested in a wide variety of ethnicities, body types, and ages. Older people are especially encouraged to volunteer. Volunteers will be required to follow ground rules and group instructions set by the artist.

Ground rules: You are in limbo, waiting and you’ve been there for hours. You can’t interact with others and cannot have books or magazines, but phones are ok.

Group instructions: You will read an action item drawn from a hat, then music will play. You can move around a little, staying within the taped boundaries.  When the music stops you execute your action item. You will pick a new action item when instructed and then start over. Volunteer time will be a minimum of 30-45 minutes. You may wear whatever you want; color and patterns are encouraged.
