CounterCurrent 14 Performance
Filmmaker, producer, and acclaimed visual artist Wu Tsang animates his installation at DiverseWorks with a one-time-only live performance, featuring the performer boychild. Moved by the Motion (featuring boychild) explores the sensorial potential of pictures in relation to cinematic narrative. Working in a tradition of artist-filmmakers, Tsang looks at the role that fantasy plays in representing social movements. Evoking “the underground” as a site of cultural resistance, he considers how these constructs have been transformed by the internet and social media. Playing with sci-fi and portrait film genres, Tsang’s filmic installation was developed across three locales in Europe, Latin America, and Houston.
Moved by the Motion (featuring boychild) is presented by DiverseWorks as part of the CounterCurrent festival in collaboration with the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts.
