Artist Opportunities
DW2! DiverseWorks Development Workshops 08-09
Download the Application in Word form here ; the pdf form here .

DW2 creates opportunities for professional visual, literary and performing artists in Houston and surrounding counties to support their artistic practice. During the season of 2008-2009, DiverseWorks will join the Houston Arts Alliance as hosts to a multi-month workshop for a group of 30 to 60 established and emerging artists. This selected group of artists, known as the Artist Cohort, will engage in a mutual learning process that focuses on career management and development. The Artist Cohort will meet once a month for a one-to-two day workshop to address strategic planning, fiscal management, marketing, and effective communication skills. These workshops will be led by artists, some of whom are previous workshop participants, local professionals and community leaders.

DW2 will further personalize the learning process by teaming small groups from the Artist Cohort with mentors from the community. The mentor teams will consist of an artist and an arts professional selected from the Houston area. The artist and arts professional mentors will facilitate the reinforcement of ideas and practices introduced during the workshops. Subsequent to each workshop, artists will have the chance to meet with their mentors in smaller groups to deepen their discussions or expand on topics addressed during the workshops and to continuously evaluate the process and progress of the program.

The goal of this series of workshops is to provide a cohesive structure that will give artists the tools to organize, plan and sustain their creative careers, as well as strengthen and deepen their professional ties. This series of workshops will provide an even deeper opportunity to network with other artists, and to consult with arts management professionals from the local community.
